Radical Reading

Kia ora,

This week in reading we have started to look at Inferring. Inferring is when you think about something in a text, video or picture that isn’t said but you can notice it, This can help people understand the text better.

Our create task was to find a photo online and  infer it our self so this is what I have created

I enjoyed learning about inferring and I found it interesting to look at what others thought.

Have you ever Inferred something?.

Peace PBL

Kia ora!

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about How we can be Champions of Peace.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these symbols are the dove, olive branch and the peace sign.

These symbols represent peace like the dove in the bible, Noah sent out a dove and it came back with an olive branch to show sign of dry land.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because has peace symbols on it.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography on them. I wrote about Whina Cooper, I thought this person was a champion of peace because she led the 1000 km walk to the parliament in wellington to fight over the Maori land.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helped me understand peace more and I can know use it more in my every day life.

I learnt that there is more to peace than just being nice to other people.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace by helping others, like my family and friends.

If you were to create a peace quote what would it be?

Magic Math

Kia ora, this week we have started to look at symmetry and what symmetry is. Symmetry is a balanced similarity that can be found in two halves of an object witch means if you have a circle one half of the circle is mirrored for example: if you had two left sides of a heart and you flipped one around it would create a whole heart. You can find symmetry in a lot of things. Shapes, words, paintings, rooms, windows. There is so many types of symmetry theirs: mirrored, rotational, reflection, translation, reflection and so much more. We us symmetry because Symmetry is a necessary part of geometry and shapes. It creates a bunch of patterns that help us organize our world. We see symmetry every day but often don’t realize it. I made a google drawing showing what mirrored symmetry is.

I hope you learnt some new information about symmetry.

Do you have an interesting story about symmetry? if so what is it?

Rad Reading

Kia ora, welcome or welcome back to my blog. This week in reading we have been looking at reading Predictions . Reading Predictions has three parts. The first one is Looking at the photos on the text and predict what the story is about. The second part is reading a few lines in the text and re thinking your prediction. The third part is reading the text and thinking about what parts of your predictions were correct. I created a google drawing showing my predictions on the text sparks.

Have you ever done reading predictions?

Spectacular Science

Kia ora, in science we have been learning about electricity. We did two experiments this week and one of them was solar powered cars. This experiment didn’t work because it wasn’t sunny outside.

Another experiment we did was battery power. The materials we used were:

  • Two plastic containers
  • Salt
  • Positive and negative wires
  • 1 copper nail
  • 1 zinc nail
  • Buzzer
  • 3/4 of the container full of water

Our hypothesis was that the salt and water would make the buzzer beep and our hypothesis was incorrect.

We made a circuit using salt water and two kinds of nails. We got everything we needed and put it together step by step. Then we realized the beakers weren’t working so we made sure there was one of each nail. After we attached the two different nails it started to beep.

This is the photo from my battery power experiment.

Our conclusion was that in the end the buzzer worked after we changed out the nails.

If I were to do this again I would do more research on the experiment first.

Something I found challenging was making the buzzer make a sound using the right nails.

Have you ever done a battery power experiment? If so what type?

Magical Maths

Kia Ora, This week for maths we have been learning more about tree diagrams. For my create I spun wheel with four different options for the winter breakfast. The options were: Porridge, hotcakes, hot chocolate and  sausage sizzle. Then I made a graph showing my answers. I realized that it is a lot more common for sausage sizzle to come up instead of  hotcakes. This is my create…

If you spun wheel how much do you think porridge would get?

Magical Maths

Kia ora, This week in math we have been looking at profitability. We have also been learning about how to make a tree diagram and how it can help figure out your probability questions. I have noticed that probability is the chance of something happening for example: The chance of you meeting a talking dinosaur is impossible or the chance of you blinking is very likely.  For my create I made a slide on my tree diagram and a few questions.

Have you ever done a tree diagram before?

Remarkable Reading

Kia Ora, Welcome or welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we were learning about text features and wear each feature goes for example: Title is used to tell the reader about the text and it is usually on the front page or at the start of a new chapter in a text. we also read a text on how climate change is are biggest challenge. I think the main idea of the text is how climate change is affecting earth and how we can stop it. I made a poster with more information about text features.

Do you know about any other text features? if so what are they?

Rad Reading

Kia ora, This week for reading I read an article about the oldest cat in the world. We have also been looking at authenticity and how you can find out if a text is authentic or not. If you are trying to figure out if  a text is authentic you could see if you can find information about the text on other websites or does it say were they got their information from. I created a slide show on this text showing my opinion and my thoughts on the authentication.

If you want to read the text you can go on this LINK.

If you read the text. do you agree with my opinion or not ? Do you have any Questions for the author?

Party P.B.L

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt what a GEM stands for. G is for Gratitude. Gratitude is one of the many happy emotions when you have gratitude. You can focus on the nice things you have and it can also be stopping to notice the things you might take for granted. E is for Empathy. Empathy is an emotion that gets mistaken for sympathy. Empathy is when you put yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand how others feel. M is for Mindfulness Mindfulness is when you take a moment to realise things around you and have a moment to take a bit of time to yourself to forget the stressful things and calm down.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with Emerson.

We decided to create little boxes with key chains, stickers and magnets that had quotes. We also did a lucky dip that had bookmarks, magnets and stickers. We chose this because we think it could help remind people to show GEM in their everyday actions.

Here is my final creation:

I now know more about what gem is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I did really well at collaborating with Emerson. I could have been better at communicating and listening to my buddy.

If I was to do this again, next time I would use less equipment.

Have you ever done a mindfulness activity? If you have what did you do?
